5. WE GOT MARRIED!

The 11th March 2017 – Our Wedding Day

Exactly 4 years previously is when we committed to being in a relationship with each other, and we have not looked back since.

It was finally the big day. I got ready with my friends, a pretty chilled morning, just how I wanted it to be. I was a pretty chilled bride to be fair. I had written letters for Ben, My mum, Dad, Mother in law, sister and each of my bridesmaids. And I made them all happy cry… which is what I wanted to achieve mwahahaha.

Ben sent some presents and a card with a lovely note in for me, He got me the most beautiful necklace and earrings to wear and also some personalized trainers. Adidas Gazelles (My favourite trainers) in our wedding colours and with my new married name written all over the inside. I wore trainers all day, I had already made my own bling trainers to wear, so I swapped to the new ones half way through the day.

The registrars came and we went through everything, and then it was time to walk down the aisle with my dad by my side and my girls leading the way, It was horrible seeing my mum have to leave and walk away with an usher all emotional, ready to watch her first daughter get married.

My sister melted 0.7 seconds before she walked into the ceremony room and ugly cried all the way down the aisle – we have some great photos of this!! With my dad by my side, I clung on tight and he asked me if I was ready… I had never been more ready for anything! So off we went and we walked towards Ben, grinning every step of the way… I even gave him a cheeky little wave from the top of the aisle, and dad and I got whispered at to slow down! Eager beavers!

The ceremony was perfect, and not too long, just how we wanted it to be… as we left the room as husband and wife to the song “Take over the world” by the Courteeners, one of our favorite bands, I was smiling from ear to ear and dimples galore. My face ached, purely just from being so bloody happy.

The whole day went without a glitch, the food was lush, the speeches were brilliant and thankfully nobody went on for hours! It didn’t seem long before the evening guests arrived and the dancing commenced. The photo booth we had organized went down a treat, it was such a fun evening, full of so much happiness and surrounded by nothing but love. If you are not yet married, nothing anyone can say will make you realize just how much of a wonderful day your wedding day is… it is just the best.

However, nothing quite prepares you for the after wedding blues… Weddings should come with a warning. You spends years, months planning your wedding and all of the excitement leading up to it… then there’s the day itself, a day filled with so much joy that you feel like you could be floating… and then its all over and you’re just like, soooooo now what?? I think it was a good thing that we had to wait a few months for a honeymoon as we had something to look forward to.

I could have written a hundred page essay about our wedding day but I have tried to keep it fairly short, I thought it was an important base to cover as this blog is all about my journey, or even our journey and this day is a huge part of it.

Of course, once you are married people start saying things like…

“Time for some children now then!”, “When are you going to have children”, “are you pregnant yet?” and so on.

Can we just stop saying these types of things to couples, because you do not know what is going on behind closed doors, there is lots of reasons why couples may not have children yet, but I don’t think people realize just how heartbreaking those words can be.

And so we move on to the next chapter of our lives …
