As today is world mental health day, I thought that it was a good time to discuss the subject.
I’ll hold my hands up and tell you – I have and still do really struggle with my mental health, I also know that I could have it a lot worse. Luckily for me, I have a wonderful husband who loves me dearly, who makes me laugh when I need it the most, I have a fantastic family and the loveliest friends who support me and care for me even when they don’t even know that they are doing so.
However, when I feel at my worse, none of that stops you from feeling like you have never been more alone. No matter how much you know that isn’t true.
You think that nobody wants to hear you going on about how sad you are or about the struggles that you have, you make yourself believe that you are just a burden to everyone and that you need to deal with it all alone.
The truth is, your partner, your friends (true friends), your family will NEVER be fed up of listening to you and trying to support you, they will never feel annoyed because you are back to square one and they thought you had gotten over it. They will always be there and you will always have someone.
If you ever get so deep into the darkness that you fear there is no way back, just know as hard as it may be for you to know, there is always going to be someone that you will leave behind with a broken heart, someone that wishes that you had reached out to them, someone who regrets not reaching out to you first, someone who misses you every day, the list goes on.
The point I am trying to make is that everyone, and I mean everyone… I don’t care what sex you are, or if you are no sex at all, I don’t care about the colour of your skin, I dont care what your sexuality is, I don’t care if you have gotten through an addiction, only to be back there again… EVERYONE has someone who cares about them. So reach out to them, talk to them. What’s the worst that can happen? It might just be the best thing you ever do.
And if you are not ready to talk to someone you know, there are so many charities out there just waiting to help. There are volunteers, who give up their free time out of the kindness of their hearts, because they care! There is no judgement. I will list a few below.
If you have a friend who you think has been a bit off, seems to be wearing a mask etc.. reach out to them – ask them how they are. How they really are and let them know that you are there for them should they need you.
