8. CLOMID AKA THE DEVIL

We went back to the clinic to pay for our first round of Clomid, we were balls of excitement and nerves all in one.

We were talked through what to do and when to take the little tablets, possible side effects and we also scheduled a follicle scan, which is an internal scan to see how the follicles are growing.

Armed with my miracle pills, or so I hoped we went home and all we had to do now was wait for a period before I could start, luckily we did not have to wait too long!

I had to take 1 tablet a day, at the same time of day for 5 days, starting from day 2 (if memory serves me correct!) I had done some research and lots of ladies had said to take them at night so that you sleep through a lot of the side effects.

Side effects include but may not be limited to – Hot flushes, breast tenderness, weight gain (yay), nausea, bloating, headaches and mood swings. Mood swings! oh fuck me, the mood swings are something that I had definitely not prepared myself for.

I was a mess, I would bite someone’s head off and be furious over something very small, and then I would be ridiculously angry at myself for doing so, which would then lead to me crying my eyes out for being a bitch, when I didn’t want to be and I couldn’t stop myself! and the cycle would repeat a little bit like that.

The bloating towards ovulation time was something else, and all the other side effects too, horribly they would all make you feel like you were pregnant – which is a bitch.

Follicle scan 1, we went for our first follicle scan to see how things were going, for a follicle to be dominant they like it to be between 18-28mm and for your uterus lining to be over 6 but ideally over 7mm.

The scan revealed I had one very clear winner and a follicle measuring an average of 29mm, and a uterus lining measuring 7.39mm. Which sounded amazing, our nurse told us we had better get busy and to have intercourse every other day for the next week starting that day! Obviously we had been doing so anyway just to ensure we didn’t miss the right time.

I would love to tell you that all of our dreams came true on the first round, unfortunately that is not the case and my period came with a vengeance.

Onto cycle 2 it is then!
