The day had come for us to go and have a consultation at a private fertility clinic, we had to wait a mere week after calling for our appointment.
Wow, private clinics are on another level. We walk in and are greeted immediately by a warm and lovely receptionist who takes all of our details, she tells us to help ourselves to the complimentary drinks machine, to which we oblige of course.
Once we are taken into the consultation room together the specialist shakes both of our hands and introduces herself, we all sit down and have a lengthy chat about everything that has happened until this point. She really listened to us, and I am sure it was because we were paying her, but we just felt like she actually gave a shit. Which was a refreshing change.
I was taken across the room to have an internal scan, with Ben by my side, and a TV screen on the wall at the end of the bed with the scan on the screen. She talked us through everything she was looking at and what she found. It was so interesting and so lovely for Ben to be there and for him to be able to understand what was going on better.
As we already knew, she told us about the PCOS, but other than that everything looked good, however it had been a long time so they advised trying Clomifene (Clomid). She explained exactly how the drug worked, the success rates and how they increased with every cycle. She even drew diagrams of what was going on inside of me which made it so much easier for us to understand.
We decided to go away and have a think about it as obviously it would be something we would have to fund ourselves.
However, the whole experience was amazing, and probably the best £250 we had ever spent.
We were completely buzzing from the experience, and spoke about how great and inciteful it had been all the way home.
It wasn’t long before we decided that we would try a few rounds of clomid and see how we got on. That is where our fertility treatment journey started.
